TRAILBURN — Privacy

Last updated 15 October 2026

Trailburn is a light-trail arena game: a desktop app for the host and a free browser page for the people who join. We collect as little as we can. There are no ads, no analytics or tracking scripts, no accounts of our own and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

What stays on your device

Your callsign, key bindings, sound volume, training stats, achievements progress and game options are kept in your browser's local storage or, in the desktop app, on your PC. In the Steam app they can also be saved to Steam Cloud, which Valve runs under Steam's privacy policy. Achievements and your "playing" status are reported to Steam the same way. While a host is online, a friends-only Steam lobby holds the game's online code so Steam friends can use "Join game"; it closes when the host goes offline.

What reaches our servers, and why

WhatWhenWhyKept
Feedback you write (idea, bug or balance note), with the game version, release channel and enabled test features. An optional screenshot if you attach one. Only when you press Send in the Feedback window. To read, sort and act on it. Until it's resolved and no longer useful; ask us and we delete it by hand.
Votes on the public board, stored as a salted one-way hash of your network address (it can't be turned back into the address). When you vote. One vote per household per item.As long as the item exists.
Crash reports: the error and the last 100 lines of the app's log, with your user name and home folder removed, plus the game version. Only if you turn on "Send crash reports" in the desktop app's settings (off by default). To find and fix crashes.Until the problem is fixed.
Training-alone runs: the round's inputs, its time, and your Steam ID and Steam name. When you finish a round alone in the Steam app and it is posted to the leaderboard. To check the run by replaying it and to show your best time with your Steam name on the public leaderboard. Your best time per mode, until you ask us to remove it.
Your Steam ID and a one-time Steam ticket. When a host turns on online play in the Steam app. To check with Steam that the host owns the game. Guests are never checked. A "this ID owns the game" note for 24 hours.
Your network address, briefly. When you connect to an online game, send feedback or vote. To set up the connection and to limit abuse (too many messages in a short time). In memory only, for minutes.

Our servers run on Cloudflare, which processes these requests for us. The public feedback board only shows titles we write ourselves; your original message is never public. Feedback text may be processed by an AI service (Anthropic's Claude) that helps us sort and summarise it; it is not used to train their models.

Playing with others

In an online game the host's app and the guests connect to each other. When the connection is direct, the players' devices see each other's network address, as in any online game. The host can choose "always relay" so traffic goes through a relay server and the host's address isn't shared with guests (the host's app still learns the guests' addresses while connecting). On a local network (LAN) nothing leaves your network.

Children

Trailburn doesn't ask for names, ages or contact details and isn't directed at children under 13.
